Family of Champions Makes Comal ISD State History

May 4, 2026 - For the first time in Comal ISD history, both Smithson Valley and Pieper High School received their first State championship title for their soccer programs. The SVHS Varsity Girl’s soccer team and PHS Varsity Boy’s soccer team both won the 5A title in Georgetown, Texas on April 10.

Smithson Valley Head Girls Soccer Coach Jason Adkins had an extra special finals day, as he celebrated not only his team’s win, but his twin sons, Cooper and Parker Adkins’ win with Pieper.

“It was a challenge to focus on leading my team while also supporting my sons,” said Coach Adkins. “But I was so happy for them, because they were experiencing the same opportunity I was.”

The Adkins family live and breathe soccer, with all four sons being involved in the sport. They received their introduction through the San Antonio City Soccer Club, where Coach Adkins manages a team outside of the district.

“I had no doubt the boys would fight for the win,” said Coach Adkins. “My sons are on my club team, as well as several other players at Pieper, so I knew they were a strong group.”

Being immersed in the sport since birth, for Parker and Cooper, going to State was a ‘surreal feeling’ with a sense of familial competitiveness. “There was some pressure going into the championship, because we both wanted to win together.”

Despite the pressure, the heavy soccer influence paid off, as the Adkins family legacy now has two UIL State championships under its belt.

Coach Adkins credits his team's success to the foundation created by the previous 23 years of student athletes.

“The girls from day one set their goal to go to state, and not only go to state, but win it this time,” said Coach Adkins. “The great group of seniors, team culture, and leadership passed down over the years made this year's team truly special.”

The Adkins twins are ending their soccer season on a high note, as they prepare to attend the University of Nebraska in the fall to study Business and Finance.

Though they will not be playing soccer at the collegiate level, their love for the game will continue to shine through their unwavering work ethic, bestowed upon them by our very own Head Coach.

Comal ISD is lucky to have such dedicated and inspiring individuals leading our students and programs into greatness. As history continues to be made each year, so do the great opportunities offered to aid students in their search for a Path to Success.

Thank you Coach Adkins for making district history on your families Path to Success.
