Davenport Football Standout Receives All-Star Athlete Award

Jan. 23, 2023 - Shastin Golden, the captain of the Davenport High School Wolves football team, was presented with the KENS 5 Great Day SA All-Star Athlete award for the Comal Independent School District Friday.

With his teammates, the DHS cheerleaders and the drumline, along with family and friends cheering him on, Golden, a senior at DHS, accepted the award from Anna Laura Castello, the UPS Store representative, which sponsors the honor.

“This is exciting,” said Golden, who maintains a 3.89 grade point average, is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board.

Nominated by athletic coordinator JD Zimmerhanzel, Golden has quite a list of achievements on the football field and the track including being named District 13- 4A Offensive Most Valuable Player, Built Ford Tough Player of the Week, among the top 10 rushers for State 4A and Academic All-District.

“He never makes excuses and is focused on being the best student, the best athlete and the best person he can be at all times and in any situation no matter what obstacles may come his way,” says Zimmerhanzel. “He is always willing to work hard and to help his teammates and classmates do the same. He leads by example and is well-deserving of this award.”
